Engage in Professional Growth and Leadership
Teachers continuously improve their professional practice, model lifelong learning, and exhibit leadership in their school and professional community by promoting and demonstrating the effective use of digital tools and resources. Teachers:
a. participate in local and global learning communities to explore creative applications of technology to improve student learning
b. exhibit leadership by demonstrating a vision of technology infusion, participating in shared decision making and community building, and developing the leadership and technology skills of others
c. evaluate and reflect on current research and professional practice on a regular basis to make effective use of existing and emerging digital tools and resources in support of student learning
d. contribute to the effectiveness, vitality, and self-renewal of the teaching profession and of their school and community
This standard requires teachers to actively engage in professional development and leadership in regards to new technology. Teachers can meet this standard by participating in learning communities that discuss ways in which technology can be used to enhance learning, interact with the community to promote new technology usage, continue to keep current on new technologies available for the classroom, and to teach other teachers how to use technologies in their own classrooms. Of the ten projects that we did in this course, four of them could be used to demonstrate how my online course fulfilled the requirements of this standard. These projects were the Edpuzzle video, the Rubristar rubric, the thinglink image, and the Scoop.it! page. These projects linked me, the educator, to whole communities of educators that were already using that particular technologies in their classroom. Each of these projects were shareable with these communities, so that other educators can build off what I have started. It was very useful to see how other educators were using these programs before I started my projects.
Future Learning Goal: This standard is directed more toward the educator’s career, not the individual lessons. I had a difficult time deciding which projects illustrated the requirements of this standard. However, I was surprised by the amount of resources that are available to educators made by other educators! I would like to spend more time on these websites mentioned above in order to see what other educators are doing and to share my ideas with the education community.
