Model Digital-Age Work and Learning
Teachers exhibit knowledge, skills, and work processes representative of an innovative professional in a global and digital society. Teachers:
a. demonstrate fluency in technology systems and the transfer of current knowledge to new technologies and situations
b. collaborate with students, peers, parents, and community members using digital tools and resources to support student success and innovation
c. communicate relevant information and ideas effectively to students, parents, and peers using a variety of digital-age media and formats
d. model and facilitate effective use of current and emerging digital tools to locate, analyze, evaluate, and use information resources to support research and learning
This standard requires the educator to have a working knowledge of new technologies and for the educator to use them in their courses. Educators can accomplish this by using new forms of technology in their courses and teaching their students how to use these new technologies. Here again, many of the projects done in this course could be used to fulfill this standard. The use of a course website demonstrates knowledge of current technologies and allows for the effective communication with the students. Putting the content materials in an online document, a video, and a podcast are ways of presenting current knowledge in new ways. This standard also requires educators to model proper use of digital tools in research. The resource page on the class website gives students examples of resources that may be relied on to have accurate and quality information. The Scoop. It page, which is also found on the Resource page, will also allow the students to see what the instructor relevant and quality resources. The discussion forum that asks the students to ask the instructor questions before they come to class is an example of a way of using collaborative technology to ensure student success.
Future Learning Goal: Here, again, I believe the projects required for this course website met the requirements of this standard. In order to improve the communication between instructor and students a comment board could be added to the course website. This would allow the entire class to see what questions are being asked about the course in general, not just the topics covered in the discussion board assignments.
