Design and Develop Digital-Age Learning Experiences and Assessments
Teachers design, develop, and evaluate authentic learning experiences and assessments incorporating contemporary tools and resources to maximize content learning in context and to develop the knowledge, skills, and attitudes identified in the NETS•S. Teachers:
a. design or adapt relevant learning experiences that incorporate digital tools and resources to promote student learning and creativity
b. develop technology-enriched learning environments that enable all students to pursue their individual curiosities and become active participants in setting their own educational goals, managing their own learning, and assessing their own progress
c. customize and personalize learning activities to address students’ diverse learning styles, working strategies, and abilities using digital tools and resources
d. provide students with multiple and varied formative and summative assessments aligned with content and technology standards and use resulting data to inform learning and teaching
This standard requires the educator to present the content material in ways that maximizes the learning of each student. They suggest doing this by designing relevant learning experiences using digital tools, developing learning environments that enable students to pursue their own interests, design learning activities for all learning styles, and include several formative and summative assessments. Most of the ten projects support this standard. The course web-site is a good example of how an educator can create a technology enriched learning environment that allows the students to pursue the content material in several different ways and at the student’s pace. On the course website, I have the content material presented in many different formats in order to best reach all learning styles. I have the four learning styles represented as follows; written (Google Doc), visual (Google Slide and Video), aural (Podcast and Video), and kinesthetic (Edpuzzle Video and the ThingLink image). The technology survey allow the educator to design the course to fit the individual needs of the students in the course. The resource page on the class website is another way to encourage learning. This gives the students place to start their own independent exploration of the subject matter beyond what is contained in the lesson. The practice quiz, found on the course’s assignment page, allows the students to assess their progress through the lesson.
Future Learning Goal: I believe the lesson put online meets all of the requirements to meet this standard. One aspect that could have been added, would have been to add a learning styles quiz. Some students are not aware of what learning style they tend to lean toward. Once the students become aware of this preference they will be able to better utilize the material provided for them.
